Day 80

Day 80 was the morning i left Deb and Steve's and not before time because Trevor had enough of me and let me have it when i got out of bed. He was going to tear my leg off if i didn't leave today. Deb got pretty emotional when i rode off but that's life, still waving 300 mts away till i rode out of site. Off i went up  past Cairns and onto the Captain Cook Highway. Solly Bluce.
Captain Cook Highway.
On reaching the turnoff to Mt Molloy,it  was a bit of a thrill as it is the turning point toward Perth and as far North as i needed  to go.
Finally

Waiting for my  directions to go West. Pat Kelly came through on the phone,go west young man go west.
Just before Mt Molloy i stopped at Julatten  and there was a shop called ,Nine Mile Road house. While there a couple of ladies arrived to visit the shop and i struck up a conversation with them about how far it is to the next town. I asked them if they where Aboriginal or Islanders ,and they said Aboriginal . After talking for a while i found out that they where mother and daughter, Thelma and Linda. Extremely well spoken and dressed beautifully. Linda was telling me that moms getting on (82) and she might have to throw her job in to move closer to Doctors and Hospitals for her because she works and lives in Wujal Wujal for the council which is a bit remote. Then Thelma butted in and said, more or less,I'm not going to die that easy without a fight.lol.
I asked if they had been to Perth, and they said no, but would like too. I immediately invited them to stay at my house anytime and Linda said I'm welcome anytime at hers too. It was a beautiful meeting of three people just knowing that we would get on like a fire if we lived closer.
Linda with her mom ,Thelma. Missing them already
I showed them a picture of Joy and they said that Thelma's granddad was from the Solomons.

After they left and i was about to get going ,two more girls arrive at the shop and start wanting to know what I'm up to. Rhonda and Deb, Rhonda was saying that i could  stay at her place in Port Douglas after talking for awhile, but unfortunately i was going the other way. Thank god because after i found out she wanted someone with strong legs and arms to put (him) to work on her property ,from Deb, something like a free slave. No, really these girls where good fun and just very friendly but the offer was genuine.
Deb and Rhonda ,the man eater.lol
After again saying goodbye to these two girls i really needed to get out of that road house before any other women rolled up because i think this haircut is like bees to honey.lol
Off i went and not long after you wouldn't bloody believe it ,its Deb and Steve coming to see me again on the road because Debs had her hair done near where I'm riding some 60kms from her house. Funny that.
Wanting for more handshakes and hugs,Jesus
Off and running again to hit Mareeba before sunset and find a place to stay. Got there and  after visiting some Pubs with no luck, i decided to pay $90  for a motel room but when she wanted $100 for the key deposit,i said you mean 90 plus 10 don't you.... No, $190  all up she said ,and i said, can i be rude,no i didn't.lol. I just got out and found another pub went in and booked a room upstairs and was told by a patron when doing that a guy over there at the bar said you where gay,so i fixed them all and said "i am and hang around and I'll tell you my room number when i get my key" Too tired to fight everybody after a big day of riding or anything else for that matter.
This proves Deb I'm eating your full of fat sausages

Car at the bottom of the cliff on the wrong side of the road.

The old Kelly ,fruit and veg shop out in the sticks.

  2. Humm ... I sort of think that your book (whilst no doubt extremely interesting and enlightening) wouldn't have quite the same appeal to the wider female audience than Fifty shades of Grey!!! The author's making more than $1000,000 a week, has sold more than 1000,000 copies in 12 months and the first book is the most popular adult book of all time!! Not bad for a first effort!! Ask the next female you see :) x x x ...
Coincidently, guys around the world are benefiting ... Lol!! :)

  4. Grant ,with all these new friends that will come over to visit, you need more room for accommodation , I think with a spring clean the on site caravan could just about solve the problem !!!

  7. School holidays here in Vic and Coll has gone to 'Nam, your and Bluce's old hunting grounds.
"Ah the smell in the morning..."
So you wont hear from St Paul's Primary for a while...unless via "in country."
Here in the South it is freezing, but I'm told winter is like that.
Great cycling for the trip West. May you meet as many characters as you have already so far.
Keep the stories and pics coming...

  8. For a guy that's running blind here in 'Nam' I can't see other bloggers comments and don't even know if these are getting through but it looks like you took my instructions and turned right, well done.
It also looks like you have finaly left the "Bluce" highway, i hope it was good for you?
keep the batteries up in the tracker because I'm afraid you will loose Internet connections, like me, in the middle of the desert.
    Cheers.....

  9. Hey great job Grant on the loop through FNQ. Zapped around in no time. Now you are really heading west. Except for the short trip down to Cloncurry.
But, enjoy the heat. You might have to drink more, but if it ever gets to you remember those cold nights down South and be glad you're not here now with fingers that can't feel the handlebars.
I am interested to hear how many people you meet out on the road to nowhere. Hopefully not too many transports and more time to look around?
Your blog and tracker are still more interesting than anything else going at the moment, even the Tour de France. They do well with the helicopter shots, but then again, it's all about the budget. Safe travel!
