Day 98

Day 98  blog is really only for my records. Due to having to visit the bike shop for new pedals, tubes and a spare tyre and to buy food this morning to take with me on  the next stage i decided to  energise the body by not leaving till tomorrow and to just take it easy and kick back.

One very important note too , it's my Mothers Birthday tomorrow , the 22nd and i thought i better wish her a Happy Birthday now as who knows if there is any reception where I'm going.
HAPPY 81ST BIRTHDAY....... PATRICIA MARY KELLY.....HIP HORAH...HIP HORAH...HIP HORAH.

Also i spoke to Mr Fantastic (Yern) and he is pumped about riding me in, hang on let me reword that, hoping to do the last couple of days riding into Perth by my side.  This would be fantastic if others decided to do the same whatever distance to get a thirst up and escort me home, down Marmion Ave and to celebrate on the back lawn of Pearl Pd ( perhaps a sunny Sunday.)  It could be 100 Kms or just 10Kms you do on your old bike but it would make my day. So the challenge is out there to get yourselves organised and be apart of it.

So until we text again keep watching the "spot tracker" and keep those comments coming in because as i ride into the road houses and flick the lappy open i need inspiration from you guys to drag me through as I'm entering the hardest  and gruelling part of the entire trip.

Hooosy Doooosy, im pumped and ready to attack.

Grant

  1. Let me get this straight...riding 3/4 of the way around Oz was the easiest part?
Now you face the HARDEST PART?
And the bike has started to let you down, as well?
OK, just b/c there will be no other living soul for the last 1/4, it will be HARD?
No food, nor water, nor INTERNET? Ah I see what you mean.

  3. Been following you for several weeks, Grant, from afar - since you stopped at my friend, Pya's, place in southern WA!

I'm in south eastern BC, Canada, and am thoroughly enjoying your narration of your journey - wish I could join you for the last day or two ... sounds like a blast!

Many happy returns to your Mum, too!

    Cheers!

  7. Happy Birthday Fav' Auntie.

'They' let me back on today, it's Sunday. Should get back to Malaysia on friday, high speed internet, Bloggs etc. and no Glant to Blogg to till Derby! Bugger I might as well stay here.
I thought of you about 21:00 hs last night walking back to my hotel and a Lady pulled up beside me on her motor bike and asked if I wanted a 'young' girl, I said to myself "What would Glant say", so I said "What for"? She looked at me strange and said "Is your name Glant, where's your pet OranguTang"?

Hell little buddy they still remember you and Uncle Jimmy here, you must have made an impression!

  8. Yay! Happy Birthday Patsy as Jimbo would say :)
Grant as much as I would like to join Jorn, I feel my best place is being a 'podium chic' at the finish line..... Although I hear Keith from Port Fairy is keen to do some broke-back riding:)
You've done exceptionally well & I believe you will continue to do so. Remember though, you don't work for the RAC so don't stop for bozos with broken down vehicles or spaceships

    Ride on

  9. Happy Birthday to Pat and Happy Birthday to Lindsay for tomorrow. Would love to join the ride into Perth - will keep an eye open for cheap airfares that let you bring your bike for free. Had a Laver's (I mean Lover's) Hill revisited experience today while out Mountain bike orienteering. I'm so wrecked I can hardly talk (at least I can still type), Hughie feels sorry for me and has taken on the task of cooking tea (self interest more likely). Good to hear that you're feeling pumped and best wishes and sending you lots of cheers for the journey ahead.

Now back to ME. Just about to pull out of here on a big haul to the Border. It will be a ride all day till i drop ride as i wont be able to make it in one go. Feeling positive about the challenge as feeling negative will not help lol. Havent got time to respond to all the considerate people who have commented but will do in Kunnanara, but i must make special mention to Tanya's coment all the way from Canada. Fantastic to hear from somebody who i never met personally but is actually enjoying and commenting about the blog. This is the sort of stuff iv'e been looking for to elevate me to new heights, and she has succeeded. Good on ya Tanya.

  14. After close study of the tracker you appear to have pulled over on the right hand side of the road to rest up for lunch before the big push into Kununurra.

Don't you just love this tracker?

  18. Hi Grant. Welcome back to W.A. Hope the bike and your legs are holding up well as you enter the latter stages of your ` incredible journey `. Hopefully the southbound track feels like freewheeling. We went to Rotto and did the big ride around the island, I had the gel seat and couldn`t believe I had no aches the next day. I could see that cycling could become addictive with the challenge of each next hill. Cindy rides her bike 3 - 4 times a week and is hopeing to join you in the last 10 k`s home, I might have to drive the support vehicle. I wouldn`t mind buying a fold up bike, the full size zig - zag fold up. I have been teaching the kids to play ` tiptoe through the paddock `, then tell them about you. Have you been remembering events/ feelings of the ride for the book. i hope so. Enjoy the scenery. Regards, Mike.
