Day 58/2 &59

Day 58/2 finished up a nightmare after leaving the cafe 10 km from Macksville when the sun started to shine because the moment i was away from any shelter down came the rain all the way to Coffs Harbour. It wasn't cold and i had the breeze so i just needed to live with it and not let it get to me. When arriving in Coffs and spoke to some people about hotels ,laundry bars etc etc i just couldn't get any descent advice and just thought enough is enough and rode out happy to keep going.I get a bit short with people who just don't know there own little towns, its  not New York.
Shame it was closed, i heard Lindsay has the best tasting oyster in  town.

Arriving at the next town Woolgoolga i ended up booking into a nice  place called Pine Lodge Motel run by Richard and Margaret Weeks. A great couple who where very helpful with the problem which was about to confront me. And that is ,on the weather report on the TV, Coffs had 44mill of rain and i new that already because i had the 44mill in my front pannier with my Apple Lap Top charger floating in it when i went to grab it. Can you imagine my expression on my face when i reached for the charger and it was literally immersed in water. The panniers are water proof but not saturation proof.
May Day May Day Joy. Joy sprung into action and did what she could by ringing  Dick Smiff who i had purchased the  computer from and they said $179 ,none in stock , and you gotta buy through the Internet or go to an Apple store Bla Bla. Next I was  telling Margaret in conversation about it and she told me back in Coffs she  had bought her Apple computer and they should have one perhaps. Time to go to the pub for a meal and think this over a ''T'' Bone. Decided to wait till the morning and if the weather is no good, ring up and find out which is the best place to get one from.
Day 59 was a wet, dark ,wind day at 6am and no way was i going anywhere.
8am

After ringing all the stores further North if they had any in stock with no luck it was time to hitch a lift back into Coffs and get the $89 charger and return with fine weather to start riding. I could not imagine not being able to communicate with my followers, it was like another death in the family without the lapy.Went like poetry as both the Motel and the shop where both on the Pacific High Way. So today was a late start, 11.30am ,plus stopping for some heavy showers, finally i ended up at a place called Maclean, at the pub. Just finished telling the barman actually, that he needs an exercise book and every time somebody asks him a question about something write the answer down and after a year he will know 365 more things than he does now because he knows jack shit about anything. I even asked how old he was and he nearly didn't know.(25)

Thanks Jack and Joy for organising the money for me as i asked ,the delivery was made at the secret spot out in the open road so nobody could see the amount stuffed into my panniers.
Jack and Joy thanks.
Have you got a thing for Koala's Linds

I'm sure these signs are to keep you thinking so you don't crash.
Bit out of wack with no computer last night and today sorting it out, my fault for not wrapping things up properly but won't happen again if i can help it.
Till we talk again..........Grant

  1. You are so lucky to have had shelter most of the time.... Poor Tom's tent got shredded today by the storm:((( Ps. Dick Smiff should teach their Reps to their facts right!!

  2. like the barman story, may have to use this exercise book idea myself.Imagine 365 times smarter in only one year! You should go back there in 12 months and check his progress.
Bit of wet stuff on the radar as you head north slugger ,keep that battery wrapped up tight!!

  3. Wow, what new experiences you are having. It's likely that these extreme events will be the things that stick in your mind long after it's all over.
What really makes my day is to get up, check the weather and then look at where you are. I feel good all day when the winds are kind. Today there are 22km southerly winds all along the coast.YAY! Except for Cape Byron which has a northerly. WTF! How is that possible? Who is sabotaging this? Just as you head towards some of the most beautiful scenery in northern NSW the wind reverses. Not likely! I am taking it as an aberration and when you get there it will be back in the south where it should be. After all, there is a rhythm to life and that makes it liveable, or so I have heard.
At least the temps are slowly rising. you look like you will not be getting anywhere near freezing for a long while....if ever? hope you get to have the T-shirt on once the rain stops. Go well!

  4. So one of the pics requires people to "report koalas."
What have the koalas done wrong?
Sure looks wet and the computer and water story makes for good reading.
"It never rains, but it pours" I was told once.
I hope the rain goes away.

  5. I'm just like Jude, Solly Ladies, hold the coffee, I'm just logging on to "The Paddock".

It's funny how I've fitted you into my routine, before the offshore call and between the 2nd cup of coffee I get my "Fix", Hell big guy, it has to start getting better for you, all I see is rain, storms and wild weather, by the time you get between Mt Isa and Darwin you will be wishing for rain!
I see yesterday Merely Streep was right "The Dingo got my Baby", thank God you are not going back down that way, I could see the tracker getting dragged around Uluruuu for days.

Hang in there you are entertaining the masses fantastically.

  6. Hi Grant, that constipation problem you have has got nothing to do with the Sushi rolls. I ate them & my bowel working normally...I know Jen is good but she isnt so good that she has mastered the art of Sushi Origami...thats when you eat the sushi roll & it magically unravels itself in your gut & grows into a massive Taree Turd style ninja...a bit like Monkey Magic...sounds like BS right...so as you can see my theory that there is no way it was the sushi.
Most likely scenario for your constipation is forgetting to remove the bike seat before hitting the can...give that a shot & your more likely drop a fast 5kg monster.

    All the best mate

  17. State borders falling down like dominoes as you hit them. Just NT to go and then you're on the home run - and hopefully mostly in the dry season. Sounds easy sitting where I am, but sitting in awe at the effort and determination you show. Go north young man (well, maybe not that young)!
