Day 22 to 25

The man who greeted me after a huge day, Weilson Fan from Beijing . Check out the bread.
Day 22 was an exciting day, left Border Village early and made the most of the breeze finally helping me along the way even though you still have to push those pedals ,only faster and concentrate on keeping them going as though theres no tomorrow. The sunset and the moon rising was SPECIAL. Arrived at the Nullabor road house in the dark and was greeted by a Chinese guy cycling west. He could not speak a word of English and i could not think after riding all day but he wanted to know all about what was ahead of him in distance and if any water was available on the way. I couldn't find my wallet but that didn't stop him from pestering me to the point i nearly told him where to go in the universal language everybody knows. Still after finding the wallet and booking into the same room as last time i had him in there, eating some of Joe's tomatoes, cheese and drinking coke with him discussing his challenge the next day.The man was on a death wish at 65 yrs old. In the morning by looking at his bike i must of really scared him because he had loaves of bread and bottles of water taped all over his bike. Still the man managed to tell me that he had cycled 27000 km around China and 10700 km America in parts . My respect for him went to a new level
Happy now after a talk and feed of sloppy tomatoes.

Day 23 started with an unbelievable fog. You could hardly see 50 mtr in front of yourself. Weilson demanded a photo and a huge hug before i left and we parted at the same time in different directions.
Disaster day of tube trouble, the back tyre went flat and i replaced it and then again .I was running out of tubes and then my pump broke but i had a spare. Remember Mr FANTASTIC when i said a spare might be a good idea.Really wasted some time that day and made it to Nundroo in the dark and booked a room because i was  not going to rough it that night after a terrible ordeal of tyre trouble all day and i needed to settle and reorganise my panniers because every time you have trouble you have to throw everything out and look for stuff and it all ends up all over the place.
The moon rising out of the earth

The fog

Been there done that.

Sleeping Wombat
Day 24 left Nundroo relaxed and headed off early to make the most of the wind. Hit Penong as Linds said about lunch time and kept going till i arrived at the quarantine station at Ceduna and while talking to the guys while i had my last orange, low and behold my mate Clarie Ryan, my petrol station man from years ago jumps out of his car and gives me the the big handshake. He is travelling around Aussie a bit with his wife in a caravan
Big Clarie and myself at Ceduna

Ceduna Church, mmmm maybe i could stay there.

One for the little fella Linds.
I left Ceduna after re stocking  with tubes and a spare pump and headed to Smokey Bay.Arrived on dark and no room in caravan park but suggested i go next to the wrecking yard and they have accommodation there. Arrived and the guy had one look at me and said 80 bucks and i said ,see ya later and went back onto the main road and set up my tent. Mistake to go into Smokey but i caught up with Clarie again and they couldn't believe i was following them.

Day 25 Missed out on the radio interview because of flat phone. Packed up my tent and next port of call Streaky Bay ,had lunch there and off to Port Kenny but 5 km out struck trouble with back flat tyre, seem to crack around valve or on seam, too cheap maybe.Broke my pump again, maybe i should by a big one Linds whats your call on that? Whacked a new tube in and got into Kenny about 3 and i said to this bloke outside the local, hey mate how much is it to stay here and he said NOTHING,I  said what. He owned the pub and he had rooms at the back and he said i was welcome. Ended up returning the favour and eating a T bone meal and had a chat with him later. Good bloke
Dale the pub owner and thats me on the right
Thats all folks for the time being, thanks again for everybodies comments, keep em commin, chow nee how

  1. Next puncture, check the rim where the tube "nozzle" comes out. It may have somehow twisted(?) and is tearing the tube there? You may have to burr the edges clean with a stone/file?
Great stories so far esp the difference in lodging prices offered to you. $80 vs $0.
Great that you've learnt to speak Chinese.

Well I can see your magnetic appeal is attracting all sorts of characters along the journey even in the isolation of South Australia.Tell me have you seen that travelling bus full of bikini models off Dumb&Dumber yet?Oh yeah, of all things that have survived our interstate moves I have discovered your old green sleeping bag you sold me back in 1989.I could never really fit in it but I,m sure you will by the time you get here!!

  8. There seems to be a bit of confusion in Port Lincoln...you are going around in circles on Tasman Terrace.
Bruce will be concerned and if Pearl could see the map, she would be as well.
Are you lost? It's nearly 5.00PM here in Mildura, so you have time to head North...have you lost a pedal and she'll only go in circles?
